The ecoVirtualcard is a virtual prepaid card that essentially functions the same as a physical prepaid card. But as it’s virtual, you would only be able to use this product to purchase goods online or over the phone.

Once a single transaction is made, the prepaid card is no longer valid and cannot be used again. To get an ecoVirtualcard, you would need to have an ecoAccount with us at the Silver level or above. You can use our virtual prepaid card at most online merchants of your choice.

Of course, we do not recommend an ecoVirtualcard as a full substitute to the ecoCard or any other debit or credit cards. But if you are planning to complete a one-off payment and would like that extra bit of security, then the ecoVirtualcard is a great option.

1. Minimises risk of fraud and theft

This virtual prepaid card is a one-time use prepaid card. Once ordered, you will receive a 16-digit card number and a 3-digit security code. But, they are only valid for you to use and perform a single transaction.

The number and security code are blocked after the transaction is complete. This means hackers or fraudsters would not be able to make any fraudulent transactions, even if they did manage to gather both of these elements.


How do I apply for an ecoVirtualcard?

If you do not have a Silver level ecoAccount, log in here to upgrade your account.

1. Ensure you have sufficient funds in your chosen currency account

Please ensure the currency account you’re planning to link your ecoVirtualcard to has sufficient funds. For example, if you’re aiming to use your new ecoVirtualcard to buy £50 worth of clothes, ensure that your ecoAccount has £50 or more.

That’s it! You do not need to load or pick a pre-set amount onto your virtual prepaid card. The transaction will automatically be debited from the chosen linked account. That’s why it is so simple. All you need to ensure is that you have sufficient funds for the purchase or transaction that you will be doing.
